Hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) report quality data to entities such as accrediting bodies, regulators, and clinical registries, but Leapfrog is the only quality reporting program designed exclusively for the purpose of increasing transparency to the public.
Transparency is one of the most powerful drivers of change in health care. Throughout Leapfrog’s 26-year history, we have seen time and time again that real improvements in patient safety and quality occur when hospitals and ASCs measure their performance, and through Leapfrog, make that performance data available to the public.
We recognize and applaud the hospitals and ASCs that commit to full transparency by voluntarily participating in Leapfrog’s free, annual Surveys. Leapfrog Surveys include evidence-based, nationally standardized patient safety and quality measures that are of utmost importance to patients, health care consumers, employers and purchasers, health plans, and other stakeholders. Measures that focus on the highest areas of hospital risk, such as intensive care and maternity care, and timely topics, such as hospital boarding in the emergency department, as well as measures that focus on core aspects of surgery center care, such as hand hygiene and informed consent.
To honor the hospitals and ASCs that have made the commitment to their communities to be transparent, Leapfrog is launching a new “Full Transparency” badge. Hospitals and ASCs that submit all applicable sections of our Surveys receive the badge.
The badge will appear next to the facility’s results on Leapfrog’s Hospital and Surgery Center Ratings website and facilities that earn it will appear in featured search results – making it easy for visitors to our website to identify fully transparent facilities.
Hospitals and ASCs can also freely display or publish the badge on their websites and in communications materials. Leapfrog looks forward to celebrating the thousands of hospitals and ASCs that have demonstrated an unflinching commitment to transparency.
